Parkway East Schedule

September 4-7

 

EASTBOUND (OUTBOUND) MAINLINE

 

·         Shoulder closures will occur in various locations in both directions through project area from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday, Sept. 5.  

 

·         Thursday: Outbound (eastbound) single and double lane closures (one lane open in the work zone) from the Edgewood Swissvale Interchange (Exit 7) to the Monroeville Interchange (Exit 10B) from 9 p.m. on Thursday night, Sept. 4 to 5 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 5. Drainage work, concrete sawing, barrier and tree trimming will occur.

 

·         Weekend: Outbound (eastbound) single and double lane closures (one lane open in the work zone) from the Bates Street Interchange (Exit 7) to the Monroeville Interchange (Exit 10B) from 9 p.m. on Friday night, Sept. 5, continuously around-the-clock through 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008. (Note: Outbound weekend work zone will conclude at 4 p.m. on Sunday to minimize inconvenience on traffic leaving the Steelers game.) Paving, paving repairs on the bridge over Saline Street, guide rail installation, drainage work, tree trimming, and bridge improvements will occur.

 

WESTBOUND (INBOUND) MAINLINE

 

·         Shoulder closures will occur in various locations in both directions through project area from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday, Sept. 5.  

 

RAMPS /OTHER RESTRICTIONS

   

·        The Brinton Road Bridge is being closed for repairs. The closure will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday and will continue around-the-clock through October 8, 2008. Brinton Road will be closed between Maple Avenue and McKelvey Road. Signs will be posted to guide motorists around the closure.

 

Brinton Road posted detour:

*       Take Maple Avenue to Edgewood Avenue

*       Follow Edgewood Avenue to Columbia Avenue

*       Take Columbia Avenue back to Brinton Road

*       Same detour in opposite direction

  • Ramp closures will be coordinated to avoid conflicting detour routes.

     

    ·            Edgewood/Swissvale off-ramp: Lane closures will occur on the outbound off-ramp from the Parkway East to Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 7) for bridge deck repairs.

     

    ·            Greensburg Pike Off-Ramp:  The outbound (eastbound) Parkway East off-ramp to Greensburg Pike (Exit 9) will be closed from 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, continuously through 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7. Crews will be concrete patching, paving and improving draining on the ramps. Signs will be posted to guide motorists.

    Greensburg Pike Off-Ramp Posted Detour:

    o       Continue eastbound on the Parkway East

    o       Exit at Churchill Exit 9

    o       Follow Churchill Road (Route 2104) to Beulah Road (Route 130)

    o       Make right onto Beulah Road (Route 130)

    o       Make left onto Penn Avenue (Route 2110)

    o       Follow Penn Avenue (Route 2110) to Graham Boulevard

    o       Follow to Greensburg Pike

     

    ·            Outbound on-ramp at Churchill: The on-ramp to the eastbound (outbound) Parkway East/Business Route 22 from Route 2110 (William Penn Highway) in Churchill will be closed 9 p.m. on Friday to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Paving will occur. Signs will be posted to guide motorists.

    Posted Detour:

    o       Turn right off Route 2110 (William Penn Highway) onto Route 130 (Beulah Road)

    o       From Route 130 (Beulah Road) make left onto Route 2104 (Churchill Road)

    o       Follow Route 2104 (Churchill Road) back to the eastbound Parkway East/Business Route 22

     

    ·            Inbound Churchill Off-Ramp: The off-ramp from the inbound (westbound) Parkway East to Route 2110 (William Penn Highway) at the Churchill interchange (Exit 10A) will be closed periodically between 9 p.m. on Friday to 4 p.m. on Sunday for paving.

    Posted Detour:

    o       Continue inbound to the Edgewood Swissvale interchange (Exit 7)

    o       Exit and make left onto Braddock Avenue

    o       Take on-ramp from Braddock Avenue to outbound Parkway East

    o       Take the outbound Parkway East to the Churchill Interchange (Exit 10A)

    o       Exit onto Churchill Road (Route 2104)

    o       Make right onto Route 130 (Beulah Road)

    o       Make left onto the William Penn Highway (Route 2110)

     

    ·            Parkway East On and Off Ramps to Churchill Road:  The on and off ramps from the outbound (eastbound) Parkway East to Churchill Road (Route 2104) at the Churchill interchange (Exit 10A) will be closed periodically between 9 p.m. on Friday to 4 p.m. on Sunday for paving, concrete patching, and drainage work.

    Posted Detours:

    On-ramp

    o       Take Churchill Road to Route 130 (Beulah Road)

    o       Make right onto Route 130 (Beulah Road)

    o       Make right onto William Penn Highway (Route 2110)

    o       Follow to outbound Parkway East

    Off-ramp

    o       Take the Greensburg Pike exit (Exit 9)

    o       Follow Graham Boulevard

    o       Make right onto William Penn Highway (Route 2110)

    o       Make right onto Route 130 (Beulah Road)

    o       Make left to Churchill Road (Route 2104)

     

    ·            Outbound Wilkinsburg On-Ramps:  The on-ramps from Route 8 (Wilkinsburg) and Route 30 (Forest Hills) to the eastbound (outbound) Parkway East at the Wilkinsburg interchange (Exit 8) will remain closed around-the-clock through Sept. 30. Crews will be concrete patching, upgrading drainage, tree trimming, repairing structure and resurfacing on the ramp. The long term closure is needed to raise the ramp to improve clearance over Route 8/30 and additional work needed on the ramp. Signs will be posted to guide motorists.

    Posted Detour:

    o       Take the inbound (westbound) Parkway East to the Edgewood Swissvale interchange (Exit 7)

    o       At bottom of exit, make left onto Braddock Avenue

    o       Follow signs to outbound Parkway East

     

     

NOTES:

·         A full inbound closure is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of Sept. 12-15.

 

To help keep motorists informed of construction activities and traffic restrictions on the Parkway East, PennDOT has established a website specifically for the project. The website, www.penndot11.com, provides information on the project, details on current construction activities and traffic restrictions and other useful information.

 

In addition, website visitors can register for email updates that will be sent weekly for upcoming work and restrictions.  PennDOT has also created a hotline number for road construction information. The number, 412-429-6035, provides current traffic restrictions and other useful information on the Parkway East project and other key improvements in the region.
